Mario Kart Live Australia
Mario Kart Live combines a physical kart with Nintendo Switch software to create an augmented-reality race. Players steer a small car around household rooms while the game overlays items and opponents on the screen.
The set includes a USB-C charging cable and spare tyres. Updating the console firmware before first use prevents connection drops during calibration.
Setup Steps
Number the steps to avoid missing calibration markers. Place the four AR gate stickers on the floor at least one metre apart. The software prompts the player to drive through each gate in order.
After the gates register, the game scans the room for obstacles. Moving furniture closer than 30 cm to the track boundary may cause the kart to stop mid-race.
- Charge the kart for 30 minutes before pairing
- Open Mario Kart Live Home Circuit from the home menu
- Follow on-screen prompts to link the console and car
- Test steering range in an open hallway
Course Design
Players can create multiple layouts by repositioning gates between races. The game saves up to three custom tracks per profile, allowing quick swaps without rescanning.
Adding household objects as ramps introduces vertical play. Ensure the kart’s suspension travel matches the height of any makeshift jumps to prevent flips.
Multiplayer Mode
Two consoles can race on the same physical course when both are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Each player sees their own item boxes and opponents on separate screens.
Latency stays under 100 ms in most Australian homes. Testing ping on the console before a session prevents noticeable lag during item throws.
Storage and Care
Store the kart in its original box between sessions. Foam inserts protect the camera lens from dust. Avoid leaving the vehicle in direct sunlight, as heat can warp the plastic chassis.
Age Recommendation
Nintendo lists the game for ages 3 and up. Younger players benefit from adult supervision when the kart travels near stairs or pet bowls.
